Gretchen Pineo

As a member of PAL’s Historic Preservation Team since 2014, Gretchen specializes in preparing National Register of Historic Places documentation, historic contexts, and evaluations of historic properties, neighborhoods, and cultural landscapes.

She has developed public interpretive installations about Cold War-era scientific and military research and industrial village development in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Her conference presentation topics include Mid-Twentieth-Century Modern architecture and college campus landscapes, the struggle for African American Civil Rights in Rhode Island, Historic Preservation and Climate Resiliency, and the Saugus Iron Works in Massachusetts.

Before joining PAL, Gretchen was an intern with the National Park Service Northeast Region History Program. She has a dual BA in Archaeology and Astronomy from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and MA in Preservation Studies from Boston University. She has a Professional Certificate of Museum Studies from Tufts University and is an adjunct faculty member in the Boston Architectural College Master of Design degree program. Gretchen is a member of the Vernacular Architecture Forum, Society of Architectural Historians, and New England Museum Association.
